| Flow Through Ozone Monitors: Models 106-LFT & 106-MFT |
Some applications require that the ozone monitor not significantly perturb the ozone concentration or flow rate. Examples include some industrial applications where ozone is generated and used for treatment of water, air, food, soil, etc. and experiments where the effects of ozone on plants or animals are being investigated. Several manufacturers offer flow-through ozone monitors for extremely high ozone concentrations such as the percent levels of ozone produced from ozone generators, and our Model 106-H Ozone Monitor is a flow through instrument. However, for ppb and ppm concentrations, where frequent measurements of the lamp intensity in the absence of ozone (Io) are required, 2B Tech offers the only solution. As shown in the diagram below, a flow through option is available for the Models 106-L (0-100 ppm) and 106-M (0-1000 ppm) ozone monitors. In this modification, an extra 3-way valve and 2 check valves are used in a novel plumbing configuration that allows ozone to continuously flow through the instrument. The sample encounters a 3-way valve that alternately (every 2 s) directs the flow either through the detection cell or bypasses the detection cell entirely. The reference light intensity measurement is made every 2 s by drawing ambient air through an ozone scrubber and the detection cell using an air pump already present in these instruments. The 106-LFT or 106-LMT is then placed directly in the flow path of the ozone being measured. The resistance to flow is very low, and no significantly amount of ozone is destroyed during the measurement. The only requirement is that the ozone flow rate be in the range 0.6 to 3.0 L/min and that the internal pressure not exceed 5 psi gauge.
